September Empties

Here's a peek at all the things that I've gone through this month. As usual, there's a lot of skincare and body care, plus a few makeup items. I honestly just love getting these posts out of the way so I can get to recycling and throwing away all this stuff.

Weleda Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion

In my quest to find a lightweight moisturizing lotion that keeps my skin happy, I stumbled upon Weleda Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion ($15.69 for 1 oz). As the name suggests, this moisturizer is made with iris root extract, which is supposed to help maintain moisture balance and stimulate the "active layers" of the skin. It also contains calendula for its antiseptic properties, which is great for my breakout prone skin. I must admit I don't think I've even smelled iris before, but I really like the scent of this lotion. It's fresh and floral without being overpowering, and just a dash medicinal.

Acure Facial Cleansing Creme

Meet my favorite skincare product of the moment, Acure Facial Cleansing Creme ($12.94 for 4 oz). This creamy face wash is designed cleanse normal, combination and dry skin without stripping away
moisture. It has a smooth, rich texture, an unusual greenish gray color, and a very light mint scent. It foams up just a little bit with water, and leaves my skin feeling very clean, without any tightness. I especially love it because even on heavy makeup days, it washes it absolutely everything with ease. But it's still super gentle on the skin. No stinging my eyes!

Honey Girl Organics Body Creme

Honey Girl Organics Body Creme ($23.99 for 4 oz) is a product to satisfy the purists, with organic, close to earth ingredients and bee products that come right from the company's own hives. If you think you only like butters and oils, this might just be the creme to change your mind.

Fable Naturals Lemon and Lavender Body Balm

Above all else in the land of natural skincare, I love a good balm. At present I have 14 posts dedicated solely to the subject. They're more moisturizing and versatile than lotions, more portable than oils, and just more fun, don't you think? My newest balm is Fable Naturals Lemon and Lavender Body Balm ($9.99 CAD).

Deep Steep Passionfruit Guava Body Butter

I will always remember that first time I had fresh passionfruit juice in the Miami Airport. I've wanted all passion fruit everything ever since. It is just about my favorite flavor/scent ever. I'm obsessed. Guava is a longtime favorite as well. So obviously I needed to try Deep Steep's Passion Fruit Guava Body Butter ($4.99 for 6 oz).

Acure Lemongrass + Moroccan Argan Oil Firming Body Lotion

When it comes to body lotion, Acure is my number one. I already tried and loved their mandarin scent, but I decided to switch it up this time and try the Lemongrass + Moroccan Argan Oil version ($8.57 for 8 oz). If you've tried their Lemongrass and Argan Stem Cell Shampoo and Conditioner, or the Leave In Spray, this has the exact same scent. It's tangy, bright, grassy, and herbal. It's just like the smell of fresh lemongrass, but even more pungent.

Fable Naturals Lemon and Listea Body Wash

Way too many of the body washes available, even in natural retailers, are made with some pretty undesirable ingredients. Scan a typical ingredients list and you will find synthetic detergents like SLS, preservatives such as phenoxyethanol, japanese honeysuckle, or even parabens.

Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara: is it worth the hype?

The fourth mascara released by Organic Wear, Fake Out ($9.95) has received a ton of love from my fellow green beauty bloggers. I liked its predecessor, Jumbo Lash, and since this line is conveniently found at the drugstore, of course I had to check it out.

Paintbrushes: perfect makeup brushes for small and hooded eyes

Recently, I watched an extremely helpful video from Nurberxo full of eye makeup tips. One of the things she mentioned was that many makeup brushes are "one size fits all," which obviously doesn't work for everyone. She showed some smaller sized paint brushes from Michael's, which were perfect for smaller eyes or those who want more precision in their application. I felt like she was speaking directly to me! I don't have a lot of lid space, and I always felt like many blending brushes were much too big for my eyes.

Dr. Hauschka Blackthorn Body Oil

Dr. Hauschka Blackthorn Body Oil ($28.95 for 2.5 oz) is a unique body moisturizer formulated with an under-appreciated extract. What exactly is blackthorn? A quick Google search for the term yields several pages on a Butch Cassidy biopic and also an Irish rock band.

Fable Naturals Lemon Lip Balm: fair trade + fruity

I've recently been testing out a few products from a Canadian brand called Fable Naturals. Based out of one of my favorite cities, Vancouver, B.C., this company focuses on using ingredients that are natural, organic and fair trade certified.

Badger Damascus Rose Antioxidant Face Oil: simply amazing

I. Love. This. Badger's Damascus Rose Antioxidant Face Oil ($11.09 for 1 oz) could be the single best value of any natural-leaning skincare item. That's quite a statement, but this little bottle deserves it. The golden orange oil that it contains is just really, really good -- and look at the price!

The All Natural Face Cream Blush: Part Deux

The All Natural Face Cream Blushes ($5.75) are really shaping up to be my beauty addiction of the year. Apparently, the ten I showed in my last post just weren't enough (they totally were). Here's another round of swatches and thoughts on each color. Make sure to check the end of this post to see my favorites.
